What is an MSP file?

MSP files mostly belong to Installer by Microsoft. MSP is the filename extension of patch files containing data used to update programs installed with Windows Installer. These files are typically downloaded as part of security updates for Windows operating system and they may include hot fixes, service packs etc. MSP is also the filename extension of black and white bitmap images created with older versions of Paint, a raster graphics editor distributed as part of Windows desktop. Images stored in MSP format contain 1 bit per pixel. Music projects created with Music Studio Generation 5.0 Deluxe were saved in MSP files. This project file format is no longer in use. AppleWorks, a discontinued suite of office tools for word processing, spreadsheet, and drawing, saved its spellcheck dictionary in an MSP file.

How to open an MSP file

You need a suitable software like Installer to open an MSP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MSP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MSP file directly in the browser:. Sx KN 5000 is a portable electronic keyboard (piano) with an LCD display, diskette support, and a library of rhythm patterns, drum kits, and sounds. The manual sequence pads data used by Sx KN 5000 were stored in MSP files. This product is no longer sold by the manufacturer. This file format is classified as Data.

The average file size is 100 MB with most files being between 800 KB and 390 MB in size. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. The file name AcrobatDCUpd2000920063.msp is characteristic of these files. Such MSP files store data about acrobat, exchange, office, acro and none.
9% of all MSP files are associated with Microsoft Paint bitmap. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. MSP files can be up to 24 KB in size, but are often around 1 KB - 18 KB. The keywords LinS are typical for these files.
