What is a PSB file?

PSB files mostly belong to Photoshop by Adobe. PSB filename extension is associated with Photoshop Large Document format used to save large images with dimensions larger than 30,000 by 30,000 pixels. Images with resolutions up to 300,000 by 300,000 pixels may be saved in a PSB file. PSB files are structurally similar to PSD but the format allocates more bytes to some fields. PSB files are only supported by Photoshop. If you wish to open a large image in a different program, it's best to export it in TIFF format instead. PaintShop Pro, a photo editing software saves sunburst preset data (photo settings) in PSB files. Navicat, a database administration tool uses PSB files to save database backups and profiles. Pinnacle, a sound bank software stores 8 bit and 16 bit sound banks containing instrument samples and loops in PSB files. PowerDivX, an older media player stores video subtitles in PSB files.

How to open PSB files

You need a suitable software like Photoshop to open a PSB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PSB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PSB file directly in the browser:. The PSB file type mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in PSB files:

• 80% of all PSB files are Photoshop Large Document Format files, which are based on the PSD file format. It is the native image format of Adobe Photoshop that supports multiple image layers and various imaging options. It can contain graphics data of high quality up to 2 gigabytes in size. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 6 MB and 4 GB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 8BPS, 8BIM, " id="W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d"?>, <?xpacket begin=", <x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" and xmptk. An example of a file name is heic1502a.psb. These files can be linked to heic, banner, logo, affiche and image.
• 3% of all PSB files use the same file format, which have the signature 23 23. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. PSB files can be up to 2 MB in size, but are often around 40 bytes - 1 MB. Files like these have the following tags: south and park.
