Opening a FIX File
The FIX file type is primarily associated with Various specialized apps.
What is a FIX file?
- GIS Use: A FIX file can hold feature information exchange data and act as a spatial index in systems like ESRI ArcGIS. This helps the software quickly find map features. More details can be found at OGC.
- Medical Imaging: In some cases, the FIX file serves as a medical image archive index for systems such as AGFA IMPAX EE. Visit Agfa Healthcare for specifics.
- Form Templates: Certain FIX files are used as Czech form templates, holding layout and field definitions in document design. See Form Studio for more info.
- Financial Protocol: Other FIX files contain messages that follow the Financial Information Exchange protocol (for example, FIX.4.4). These are used for communication between trading systems. More information is available at FIX Trading or B2Bits.
- Eye-Tracking Data: Some FIX files store eye-tracking data, such as that generated by Tobii Studio. Visit Tobii for details.
- Executable Patch: Rarely, a FIX file works as a Windows executable patch used to update software components, as seen in applications like Da Vinci Resolve. More details at Da Vinci Resolve.

- Various specialized apps
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FIX files are often referred to as Various specialized apps data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Generic Patch File
- Vimage (Image File) by Dr. Rolf BöhmsFix is the file format, in which the images are stored by Vimage. File extension fix image files are in principle raw data. In the first 512 bytes of the file some control data is stored. Starting from byte 512 the graphic data with one grey value per pixels and per channel follow is stored. FIX file format details:
To find out what program is needed to open FIX files, you need to determine the file format. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the FIX files looks like this:
The FIX file type has no uniform or dominant file format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all FIX files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "FILE-INDEX 3 "" at the beginning. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. A typical file size is 470 bytes. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 4.00 DESC, FILE-INDEX 3, PACS 4, "dcm" "view0001", "images" PACS, REV 1 and Edited. A usual file name is images.fix or edited.fix. Such FIX files store data about nondicom.
- 10% of all FIX files start with the bytes 01 00 00 00 crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 120 bytes with most files being between 25 bytes and 26 KB in size. Files like these are sometimes connected to area.
The remaining 75% of all FIX files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, Soubor and FIX. Sometimes used for poukazka, dobirkova, graphics, correct, rcnglm, movimientos, dodejka, vozidla, models, prepis, body or plna. If you want to find out which format your FIX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .fix file to analyze".
