GNO file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the GNO files looks like this:
Files with the GNO extension are quite widely used. This file type is primarily used by a single program. But the following two file formats are common:
- 80% of all GNO files are based on the zip format, so several files are compressed and saved in one GNO file. Most often they are one compressed file. Customary file names are Data.xml. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. A typical file size is 5 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: Data.xml. A common filename is FamilyTree.gno or Genogram.gno. Files like these are sometimes connected to family, tree, document, geno, genograma, template, familia, copie and csal, and often contain personal information.
- 20% of all GNO files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The CLSID (class identifier of a Windows component object) is 1d6d04e3-8673-11d1-8354-00c0a836451b. The file contains several sections with names like Contents. The files are 8 KB to 89 KB in size, with a median of 36 KB. familytree.gno is a typical file name. Files like these are about person-related data.
